Tom,
By remarkable coincidence we are seeking the same info, albeit probably for
different reasons.
I (more accurately, my wife on my behalf!) grow both Papilionanthe teres and
Papilionanthe vandarum. The latter flowers regularly her in UK every Jan-Feb
but, so far we haven't re-flowered P.teres. Burhham Orchids, one of our
highly respected sellers, have Papilionanthe Miss Agnes Joachim on sale and
I intend getting one.

As you will know, this is the national flower of Singapore and is (I
believe) a hybrid. There is some doubt about whether it is a natural hybrid
(maybe from artificially juxtaposed plants) or a deliberate hybrid.
I don't know what the parent species are although I believe P.teres to be a
probability for one.

There is an article of mixed value at:-
http://www.humanflowerproject.com/index.php/weblog/comments/507

The nomenclatural history of these plants is also interesting and they have
been assigned to Vanda, Aerides and now Papilionanthe.

If you discover more I'd appreciate sharing the info. By the same token,
I'll pass on anything I discover in my searches.

I have a few words on the history of the nomenclature of P.vandarum that
I'll send to your personal email address - I doubt that I could cope with
the collective groans from the entire membership of the forum!
