< 2. Squirrel sauce picquant (Peter Mudde)
- I've started to permit my son to target them with my BB rifle. Incredibly
and maddeningly destructive - for some reason, encyclia and certain laelia
p'bulbs are very attractive to them.>

Hi Peter,

Please don't let you son use the BB rifle on those little guys.

In my area (30 miles east of San Francisco) it is common knowledge that uses
'Moth
Balls/Crystals' to chase away Squirrels and Birds from eating your precious
orchids or bonsai.
I have many bonsai and orchids out door under lattice shade on the side of my
house.

Until I read about it in my local news paper, I too was troubled with squirrels
and birds. I
almost move all of them into my greenhouse, as you know bonsai will not survive
indoor
condition.

Make a little pouches, put in 3-5 moth balls or a couple tea spoons of
crystals. Close the
opening with rubber band put it near by the orchid or bonsai. Place it about
12'' per pouch, in
a few days you will see the result. Unless, non-Californian squirrels enjoys
the moth balls.

I hope this is useful to you.

Barbara
