A. The problem is probably thrips [???], which can get into the buds and 
blast the flowers. They like hot, dry weather, but our rainy season should 
wash them away. You can also hose the plants down in the early morning 
hours. Air pollution also can cause flower malformation. We had a number of 
days when pollution was high recently. Try using Organocide when the 
temperature is below 80 degrees. Experiment on an orchid you are not too 
fond of to see how it works before spraying your collection."
