Jim, Gavin McDonald, writing in the South African Orchid Journal of December 1995, says to water and feed heavily during active growth, tapering off on the water when the leaves turn yellow and allow to completely dry out between waterings thereafter. I grow Cynorchis purpurea (while not exactly the same thing it is closely related) exactly this way. One year I withheld all water during the dormant period and the tubers suffered. So I returned the next year to an occasional watering during winter.
