Hello all,

Is there a possibility to distinguish a Cattleya luteola from a Cattleya
mooreana, based only on the leaves/pseudobulbs,...??

Thank you in advance!

kind regards,

Hendrik De Rocker
Hi Hendrik,

I posted earlier to your question (Vol 8, #260), but forgot to edit the subject line to reflect the matter.  I shall repost below:

Hendrik, I have grown several different specimens of each of these species
and have been impressed by the differences in vegetative morphology within each
species.  In general, my impression is that C. mooreana has a more upright or
vertical growth habit than does C. luteola which is more of a creeping species
and is typically splayed.   C. luteola is usually much smaller than C.
mooreana when both are well grown.  I hope that this is helpful.
