By all means the pouch on the plant in question should not have allowed the plant to receive an AOS award in my opinion. Unfortunately the system is quite flawed in the 'ethics' dept. so people are afraid to comment. As you say, way too many plants just slide by. As to forced retirement at age 70, forget it. We can't even remove the incopetent ones we have at age 40.
As an AOS Senior judge, I feel comfortable in this reply.
