Dear Ogd.s
I am getting closer to the end of the Oncidinae. If anyone has any of
these species photos please send them along as jpeg files at around 1400
k. Thanks! The response for the previous species photos has been good. I
hope that no one minds these lists being put forward. It has been a
great way for IOSPE [www.orchidspecies.com] to get some new or better
species photos. Have a great weekend!
The site now has 6216 species in 619 genera. I was able to add the
other American leafless or "Ghost" orchid to the site, which is much
more common, but a lot less known, Harrisella porrecta. It is often
overlooked in Florida back yards as it is small [blooming size plants
can be 1" or less in circumference], almost never having roots longer
than 10" and they are very slender. They often grow in conjunction with
one of Florida's tsilandias [sorry do not know which one?] and are
commonly known as the "Jingle Bell Orchid" as that is what most people,
when they notice them in the woods see, not the flowers [about 1/32" - 2
mm] but the larger, globose seedpods [to 1/4" - 6mm] that dangle and
jiggle from small twigs and branches of pine, citrus and juniper on
their under 2" [5 cm] long inflorescence. To see a photo and more
