That would really depend on the center.  For those using nomination, it may 
never get off the table.  

If a center does send each plant presented to a judging team, those judges 
would consult the World Checklist and other sources before proceeding.  If the 
name is not found, the team will likely ignore the plant.  If an appropriate  
synonym is found, the team may choose to judge the plant under the synonymous 
name.

As for "... they will have to judge it," you seem to have a misunderstanding of 
nomenclature.  If you present your Brassavola fluffybum var. bigibbum to a 
center, they will *assess* the plant and, most likely, politely ignore it 
without judging the flowers.

It is not the responsibility of the judges, judging centers or the AOS to write 
the appropriately published name on your labels.  If a name is not 
appropriately published and the plant is somehow awarded, the award will hang 
in Provisional Pergatory.  Have you seen a Provisional award published in AQ?
