Title: Weighing Dry Ice

For those who have inquired, privately and on the OGD, about our procedure for using dry ice to raise CO2 levels in our basement rooms, specifically the amounts of dry ice we are using:

Today is the day we brought in our weekly pieces of dry ice for the orchids in our basement.  We aim for 3 pounds per room.  I mentioned in my last post (OGD Vol. 8, Issue 385) that the dealer weighs them to an approximate weight of 3 pounds each, which I estimated to be between 2.5 and 3.5 pounds per piece.

Today I decided to weigh each piece when they arrived at the house.  Correcting the weights for the large paper bag they are wrapped in, which is about 2 oz, their weights are as follows: 3lb, 2oz; 3lb, 8oz, and 4lb.  All are on the high side, and with more variation than I expected.  Another week, the numbers may vary differently of course.  But I suspect the dealer errs on the high side for us just to be safe.

That’s all for now.
