Matt,

I just wanted to comment on your : > Andy the "dutch researchers" you
speak of have most certainley found a
> place in thier industry for CO2 supplimentation.

As far as I am dutch and work for a large dutch cooperative suppling
products and services to the horticultural industry worldwide WE DIDN'T
in the subject of orchids grow in Holland.

600.000 sq. ft equals 55,741.82 m2? Total amount of crops in Holland
under glass with heating is 55.695.972 m2 in which we grow vegetables,
potted plants, cut flowers etc. With 8 600 companies under glass of the
total horticultural companies (10.239) only 233 have more than 50
hectares. As far as my knowledge goes that doesn't mean 1 greenhouse but
company size. The biggest size for tomato growers is about a 5 hectare
greenhouse (ONE unit)! But that is just one of the 35 countries you seem
to have info on.

As English is not my native tongue:
In Holland we normally calculate if an investment in for example CO2 is
feasible, in the database I have those investments have not been made so
they have been found not feasible. But I have not found any report in
which is stated that suppling CO2 in orchids did or didn't had any
effect positive or negative besides the point if the investment was
feasible. Again their maybe some effect on keeping CO2 on a X level of
ppm but in Holland company like Anthura and Floricultura and other large
orchid potted plant growers have not invested in CO2 suppling equipment.
With some 100 hectares (80% phalaenopsis) production and the investment
in heating equipment you can bet there has been looked at additional
investment in supply the CO2 waste to avoid environmental issues and
getting more money in someones pocket.

Regards,

Martin
