Last night (12/28/2006), I had a 2 hour communication with a tea shop in
Hong Kong - the only way he could contact us is through Skype. He had no
internet connection and mentioned that even the HK stock market was down
all because of the earthquake in south Taiwan. I guess the under sea
cable was cut in seven places. So, if you are trying to email someone in
Hong Kong and you do not get a reply, you might want to try Skype (the
telephone and the chat both worked).
I've had no problems contacting friends in Taiwan.
