To Wayne-
As you may recall, I previously told you that the Aussie dendrobes were my
favorite of all the orchids. Most of my material came from Tom Gregory, at
Merrellen Orchids, but a few were from DUNO, and recently a few meristems came
from
you.
I live in the greater Boston area which is USA zone (4)-5-(6). I grow in a 14
x 28 Ft greenhouse which is equally divided into two temperature zones, and
the Aussie dendrobes are in the cool house with a minimum night temperature of
42F. The house is attached to the north side of my home, and no direct sun
falls on it during Nov, Dec, and Jan; however maximum sun is present in May,
June
and July. I use no shading but rely on hanging plants to shade lower light
requireing plants. The Aussie plants go outside in full east sun on the first
of April, and are brought back in on the first of Nov. In the greenhouse they
are placed in maximum light.
I have made a few crosses, and am proud of the fact that one cross, Den
kingianum 'Inferno' x 'Jazzy' produced 'Trident's Baby', which received the
first
FCC/AOS ever awarded to this species in any judging system. The following year
I received a second FCC/AOS om 'Conference 82'.
I now have 25 official awards from the AOS on Den kingianum.
