G'Day,
My literate wife informs me that the word comes from the the Commedia
del Arte term "far fiasco", referring to a character on stage drinking far
too much from a flask of alcohol. The "l" in Italian was apparently
dropped for an "i" (so Florence is Firenza, even though the term survives
outside Italy as "Florin" the coin). So, for those sometimes unsuccessful
deflaskers, fiasco is an appropriate term for your failures.

I've only posted this out of pure envy for Viateur's informative posts.

Irrelevantly, Phil

PS Any other OGDers who can come up with plausible or humorous
alternatives are welcome! If you don't want to be flamed, write to my
