         I recommend arson, and lots of it.

         A more practical measure might be Marathon (imidacloprid), a 
systemic pesticide. I'm not sure how good uptake would be with plants 
in "open" mixes, but we used to use the stuff to decimate whitefly. 
It was the only thing that would touch it on the crops (NOT for 
consumption) we were keeping.

         Insect growth regulators such as Enstar (kinoprene) are good 
at controlling the problem, but elimination is difficult. Some folks 
use it with imidacloprid as "Merit" for improved kill.
