Dear colleagues : In an article published in Arditti[ed.]'s book, Orchid Biology : Reviews and Perspectives, III, Leonard J. Lawler writes : "North America : A species of Habenaria was used to provide salep."
The author gives the following references : Hogg, R., 1858 The vegetable kingdom and its products. W. Kent, London. Yearsley, G. G. 1976 Orchids---not just pretty flowers. Orchid Review 84 : 231-233. 1) If you have access to these references, could you indicate which species Lawler refers to ? 2) If you are aware of other sources in which the names of species used to produce salep in North America are mentioned, please provide the references. Thanks in advance for your help. Best regards, Viateur _______________________________________________ the OrchidGuide Digest (OGD) [email protected] http://orchidguide.com/mailman/listinfo/orchids_orchidguide.com
