"the Peterborough International Orchid Show... was held... at the East of
England Country Show in the middle of June.
  ...
An international orchid show used to be held annually in Newbury but it
folded two years ago. However... Brian Woodward and Dick Hartley... sought
a new home for the two-day show and found one in Peterborough...

An interesting feature of this show was the number of foreign nurserymen
who had troubled to travel to raise their profile and sell plants. Despite
the administrative hurdles involved in importing plants... there were
Belgians, Frenchmen, Brazilians, Malays and Taiwanese...

as Benjamin Ooi of All Asia Orchids in Penang... puts it: "There are no
strangers in the world of orchids - only friends we haven't met."...
20 county or regional orchid societies staged... displays.
...
I left... carrying only one plant, a native terrestrial orchid,
Dactylorhiza praetermissa. This was for planting in my "meadow". "
