I saw this news release today: http://www.news.com.au/story/0,23599,22012555-1702,00.html
"NEW orchid species discovered in Western Australia have evolved to resemble female wasps to encourage males to pollinate them, researchers said today." Although the news article is really light on details (anyone with more details please post) I find it fascinating how orchids have adapted to attract pollinators, in this case, emitting a pheromone to attract the male wasp. Compared to most on this list I am an extreme neophyte, and have been lurking on this list for years, I felt compelled to share this as, for me, this is the single most interesting aspect of growing orchids. Cheers! -ken -- Have a nice day ... unless you've made other plans. :) _______________________________________________ the OrchidGuide Digest (OGD) [email protected] http://orchidguide.com/mailman/listinfo/orchids_orchidguide.com
