"The ghost orchid found in the National Audubon Society’s Corkscrew Swamp
Sanctuary breaks all records, said Mike Owen, the park ranger who has spent
nearly 14 years monitoring and researching the rare plants.
...
The plant is remarkable for its size, height and location, he said.

“It’s giant, with eight or nine blossoms.” A 10th bud will probably flower
soon, he said. It’s normally a big deal to see a plant with just three
blossoms, said Owen, who works at the Fakahatchee Strand State Preserve...

The Corkscrew plant is also 60 feet in the air, which is unheard of, Owen
said. “The highest we know of is 23 feet.”

The orchid also is unusual because it is attached to a bald cypress tree.
Owen’s research shows that only 1 percent of ghost orchids are found on the
bald cypress. The flowers are found 85 percent of the time on pop ash
trees, 10 percent of the time on pond apples, and the other 4 percent
scattered among seven other sites, including strangler fig and live oak.

Part of the reason for this ghost orchid’s record height and size is that
“... it’s a super healthy, really robust plant,” Owen said. “It’s probably
30 years old...”

20 feet or less above ground level.
...
