Oliver, I don't wish to insult you on matters reptilian but if you don't know UK snakes could that small 'snake' have been a slow worm (a snake-like legless lizard with a head less dorso-ventrally flattened and with friendly lizard-like head? Pearly grey or brown? A green house sound like a more suitable environment for one. Cheers John Stanley
