Of the three varieties of orchid found on Phu Quoc, the Malaxis calophylla is reported for the first time in Vietnam while the Paphiopedilum callosum is being exploited in other regions of Vietnam and the preservation of all three types of orchids is in serious jeopardy. Surveys made at Phu Quoc National Park are part of a bigger preservation programme conducted by WAR in cooperation with Phu Quoc National Park since early 2007.
