Last September I went to Jaboticabal Orchid Show in São Paulo State.
There was an small Encyclia that I had never seen before. I wondered if
it was Encyclia marxiana, a plant that Campacci described few years ago
and is another one I have never seen, although it seemed different,
smaller and weird, however, as E. marxiana, this one does not have a
wide terminal lip separated from the lateral lobes by an isthmus. It was
greenish with purple stripes. Another interesting fact is that the
flowers did not open very much and were non-resupinate. Later, talking
to Campacci, he was also in doubt if this was in fact E. marxiana or
something different.

Yesterday evening I was talking to a friend about some other Encyclia
and I came accross the photo of original publication of Encyclia
viridiflora, the type of the genus, a species which no one has seen
during last century.

Despite there are some diferences on the lip of this plant to the one on
the original description of E. viridiflora, all other information
matches like size, color, shape and color of the column and anther, size
and shape of the pseudobulbs, callus in the lip, non-resupinated
flowers, etc.

This plant comes from Minas Gerais State, not far From Rio, where it is
said E. viridiflora comes from.

In ten minutes from now I'll upload some photos to

Please check it out and comment.
