Nancy,

Natural hybrids have been a little confused over the years. Let me explain
how I understand it now. Natural hybrids found in nature are not capitalized
but have an 'X' placed before the grex name (unfortunately this is ignored
by most orchid growers). Man made natural hybrids are capitalized. If the
naturally occurring natural hybrid is discovered and named before the same
man made combination is made and named, then both carry the same name. One
with and 'X' before the grex name and not capitalized the other capitalized.
If however, the reverse(natural hybrid found and named after the man made
hybrid) is true then you may have two different names. If you would like to
read up on this, a more detailed explanation can be found in "The Handbook
on Orchid Nomenclature and Registration" by the International Orchid
Commission.

Reciprocal hybrids carry the same names. However, my understanding is that
the Orchid Registrar of the RHS recently tried to change this and actually
recorded some reciprocal hybrids with different names, but was convinced not
to do so and corrected those already published. So that may be where some of
the confusion comes from.
