I know Erwinia and its battlefield odour. (Those that don't, thing rotten
popato. It's E. carrotevora, the carrot eater.) That is a straightforward
bacterium to kill, given modern disinfectant detergents. This looks as though
someone has spotted the leaves with acid. I am wondering about Phytophthora,
which is prevalent at this time of year in the public water supply.
