Jane,
Your problem sounds a lot like the same problem I have with Phals. I was
on here a few years ago looking for answers. I made a web site about my
problem, which I have not updated in years:
http://www.geocities.com/tlswilso/Phal_problems_2-15-04.html
Since I last updated the site, every infected Phal has died. The last
one to die, the first orchid I ever owned, died around Thanksgiving
(Late November) 2006. After all the ones with the disease were gone, I
had a person give a nice big healthy Phal to me. I grew it in the same
location where the others died and it now has the same disease. I also
purchased a seedling Phal which I grew in a completely different
location (a different building). It started showing the disease in about
4 or 5 months. The only thing the 2 locations have in common is that I
move other orchids back and forth between the two places. I have come to
believe that the disease only kills Phals but is carried by other
orchids that either show no signs of disease or show signs that I don't
recognize as the same disease.
