Dear OGD's Aerangis is a great genus, 54 different, mostly small to tiny plants with large, often many flowers that also can be quite fragrant. Generally the genus has white flowers but there are species with cream, and green colored flowers. One popular species, A luteo-alba var rhodistica has a bright red column, making it a very striking sight. The flowers often have a very long spur hanging below and in the multiflowered species makes an orchid that is just stupendous to see. The genus occurs in tropical Africa, Madagascar, Comoros, Mauritus, Reunion and in Sri Lanka and although popular is not the most commomly grown genus in cultivation. This is mainly due to avalability from nurseries, where it is seldom found and if it is, just a few species. Most Aerangis are easily grown mounted on cork and take up little space so they do not use up all the green house. Most like moderate to bright light and require ample watering with time to dry out and regular fertilizing while in growth. If you see some try them!
