Two points: Bordeaux mix is copper sulphate plus copper oxychloride. If ou apply it frequently to mounts they may accumulate toxic quantities of copper, which is of course an effective phytotoxin. (It used to be used to kill green gunk in swimming pools, for example.) Second, the 'lichen'. It could be anything from a slime mould to mycellial mat to a fungal fruiting body, so it is a bit hard to be specific. I mention the following only in passing and not as a recommendation, as it is not legal for anyone without the relevant licenses to commend any pesticide in many states in the US. In passing, therefore, may I note that Propiconazole is an excellent fungicide that I have been using as a drench and spray on orchids for a long while. I mention this fact without accepting any liability consequent upon any choices that you may subsequently exercise in this regard. (Propiconazole is sold as Banner, Benit, Desmel, Orbit, Radar, Tilt, Fidis, Alamo, Spire, Practis, Bumper, Mantis, Restore, Banner Maxx, Taspa, Juno, Novel and Break.) ______________________________ Oliver Sparrow +44 (0)1628 823187 www.chforum.org _______________________________________________ the OrchidGuide Digest (OGD) [email protected] http://orchidguide.com/mailman/listinfo/orchids_orchidguide.com
