Hi Kathy. >From personal experience and my own measurements, I can testify that the Bakers' data is quite reasonable for the equatorial tropics. My measurements from various locations in Indonesia at 1000-1100 metres altitude (3300-3,600 feet) indicates that 20 C (68-69F) is at the lower end of the normal night-time temperature range. Most of my measurements were in the 19-22 C (66-72 F) range, with temps occasionally dropping to 16 C (61 F) on clear, cloud-free nights during the June-July cool period. From the March-April and Sept-October warm periods night-time temps are commonly in the 22-24 C (72-75 F) range. A daytime temp of 32 C (89-90 F) is at the high end of my recorded range.
The SBG has a number of plants of Dendrochilum wenzelii, and they grow and flower well in a greenhouse that is cooled to 28-30 C (82-86 F) during the day and 20-22 C (69-72 F) at night.
