For John Waddington, who asked about the identity of ³Ward² for whom the
species name of Stanhopea wardii was given (OGD Vol. 9 Issue 343):

It is difficult to find much at all, and Mario Blanco already provided the
location of the original description. However, in Jay Pfahl¹s Orchid
Species Encyclopedia, he notes that the common name is Ward¹s Stanhopea, and
that Ward was an English orchid enthusiast in the 1800s.

At another web site the original publication was described, and further
states that the type species was from Mexico and the name was later revised
by Conrad Loddiges.

That isn¹t very much, but I hope it helps a bit. Keep searching. You may
find more.

Best wishes, and good luck.
