As far as I know, that is true. The flamingoes at the Jerusalem Zoo are
white, because shrimp are not kosher & are not absolutely necessary for the
birds'
health. The Syracuse zoo has a flock of Chilean flamingoes, which can stand
our climate. They are a sort of light pink, probably because the zoo can't
afford the amount of shrimp that would give them maximum color.
