Interesting little note from RBG Kew, which seems to have been busy publishing of late. Previous to the ratification of CITES, national botanical gardens collected orchids at three times the rate at which they recorded accessions of Bromeliads. Post CITES, the two rates are identical. Ergo, CITES has cut the propensity to import - presumably, but may also have changed botanical fashion - by a third as a result of the legislation. Or else there was a sudden and unrelated burst of enthusiasm for Bromeliads. ______________________________
