Viateur,
Are you sure that you have C. glandulosa? So far, all the plants that
I have purchased or seen in the U.S. that were sold under this name
turned out to be Coel. Unchained Melody. The story here is essential
like that of C. mossiae, as briefly iterated by Christenson in the
last Orchid Digest. According to my British, French, and Indian
contacts, the same seem to be true in Europe. The true C. glandulosa
is a short statured plant, with short, tough leaves; white star-shaped
flowers with the lip having 2-4 (normally 3) undulate keels, and an
yellow-orange hypochile and base of epichile, and without dark orange-
brown vein streaks on the lateral lobes.

The true C. glandulosa does not seem to be in the market in North
America, and if it exists in collections the plants are not
acknowledged. This species is a native of southern India,
specifically the Nilgiri Hills and Palni Hills. Matthew (1999, The
Flora of the Palni Hills), ranks it as a threatened species, mostly
from anthropogenic habitat change, but also from collecting.
Published collecting records have the species from the middle montane
elevations, 1000-2000 m. The region receives an intense southwest
early summer monsoon, with thunderstorm rains in late summer and
autumn monsoon, cool and dry winter, and hot and humid spring.
Records appear to report only lithophytic plants found above streams
in sholas, i.e., heavily wooded ravines and mountain valleys.

Cultivation in brief: heavy watering followed by a long reduced water
period; free draining medium; intermediate temperatures on average;
bright shade to plenty of sun.

If anyone presently has specimens of C. glandulosa, I would be most
interested in corresponding.

Paul
