Viateur, Would you like the good news, or the bad? Hah, and I have that issue of ORCHIDS! The good news is that the Coelogyne plant shown in that article from the Jardin botanique de Montréal is a very fine plant.
However, . . . [muffled drum roll] . . . it is not representative of C. glandulosa. Actually, I believe that this is another Coel. Unchained Melody. The plant is clearly related to C. cristata, but lacks the full twist of the petals and the orange fimbriae on the lip, and the lanky growth habit. The combination of the color, texture, venation, shape, and short petiole of the leaves, the seemingly close spacing of the pseudobulbs, the arrangement of the inflorescence, and the flower with a pale yellow patch on the lip, 2 very distinct lateral and one fine middle keel, a constricted base to the epichile and rolled under apex, all add up to stereotypical Unchained Melody. It does have the general appearance of C. cristata var. citrina (a.k.a., var. lemoniana), but the petals are not a good match, the keels are different, and the growth habit is too compact. Of course, a clearer image of a flower would help nail down the identification, but I am confident that this is Unchained Melody. cheers, Paul On Feb 20, 2008, at 2:14 AM, [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: > A note of thanks to Paul [Johnson] for a prompt reply to my query : > > http://orchidguide.com/pipermail/orchids_orchidguide.com/2008-February/008474.html > > Paul wrote : "Are you sure that you have C. glandulosa?" > > The plant for which I posted a request for culture tips is, > presumably, a > division of Coelogyne glandulosa 'Jardin Botanique de Montreal' CHM/ > AOS. > > Photos were published in > AOS Awards Quarterly, March 2000, page 39 > and > Orchids, October 2005, page 767. > > Do you consider that the id of that awarded plant is not correct ? > > ************** > Regards, > > Viateur > > > _______________________________________________ > the OrchidGuide Digest (OGD) > [email protected] > http://orchidguide.com/mailman/listinfo/orchids_orchidguide.com _______________________________________________ the OrchidGuide Digest (OGD) [email protected] http://orchidguide.com/mailman/listinfo/orchids_orchidguide.com
