About 300 visitors came to the... show...

One flower smelled exactly like chocolate [with vanilla ?].
It won a third-place ribbon in the show's competition.

The Springfield Orchid Society beat the other competitors to win the
People's Choice Award for their display, along with the Best Display of

Dick Wells, a certified American Orchid Society judge and grower from
Indiana, has been caring for orchids since 1954. One of his flowers in this
show won a National Award of Merit.

"It's a disease," Wells said of his addiction to the plants. "I bought my
first orchid when I was 17 and by the time I got married, I had (more than)
750. Now, I have (more than) 50,000."
