"Jim Marlow...
stumbled upon some stray orchids while taking a walk in the woods in Newark...
More than 30 years after he first discovered the flowers, Marlow is now one
of the largest orchid growers in the state, with more than 10,000 plants...
in Chili.

He started selling orchids part-time 33 years ago...
He moved to his 2,000-square-foot greenhouse in Chili in 1999...

Epi tziscaoensis... won a First Place award from the American Orchid Society.
The purple flower is unique to Marlow's greenhouse.
He found the young plant through a source in southeast Mexico and is one of
the few people... with this species.
Its drooping purple flowers are similar to grapes hanging on a vine.
The plant stands about 4 feet tall, with clusters of 30 fuzzy flowers on
each spike.

And then there's the Lycaste, a dainty flower with the fragrance of apples.
The Paphiopedilum delenatii, with pinkish petals and a little slipper
pouch, is another of Marlow's favorites.
It was believed to have been extinct from the wild and was rediscovered in
Vietnam in the 1990s.
...
Orchids are now the No. 2 potted plant in the country behind the popular
poinsettia.
About 60 percent of the orchids sold in this country are phalaenopsis,
Marlow says.
...
Robiquetia... resembles a cluster of grapes and is originally from Vietnam...

Marlow travels the Northeast to orchid shows and sells about 75 percent of
his plants at the shows...

Some people would be reluctant to dispense their... knowledge, but not Marlow"
