Orchids are second only to the poinsettia in the number of plants sold in the
United States each year. No surprise.
These beautiful, exotic and long-lasting flowers are a delight to the eye,
the touch and sometimes the nose. And orchids come in such a variety of size,
shape, color combinations and presentations that it is hard to believe these
plants are related to each other.
It also is difficult to grasp the fact that there are tens of thousands of
species each unique in its own way.
For orchid lovers, there's no better place to be April 19-20 than the Heart
O' Texas Orchid Society's 37th Annual Orchid Show and Sale, "Orchid Passion,"
at the Zilker Botanical Garden Center. Hundreds of blooming orchids on display
will be competing for awards. But plenty will be for sale, too. Vendors and
society members will be on hand with helpful information and drawings will be
held every hour for plants and other items.
