"WEST PALM BEACH... Palmetto Lane... former site of the American Orchid
Society...

The Society placed the property between Olive Avenue and Flagler Drive in a
trust about five years ago and moved to suburban Delray Beach. Society
officials had been locked in a zoning battle with nearby residents opposed
to public access of the estate at 6000 S. Olive Ave. The property was zoned
residential, and the neighbors said commercial use should not be allowed.

Sterling bought the property for $7.1 million in 2003, and divided the land
into 19 empty lots called Orchid Estates...

The only original building on the former nursery is a 6,000-square-foot
house used by Society officials. The Society inherited the land and
building from orchid grower Lewis Vaughn in the 1980s."
