Greetings to all from balmy Tallahassee, Florida, where we reached a
spectacular 93 degrees today!

Without going into a lot of details, I am working on a project on the
so-called "Jewel Orchids." As I'm fairly certain everyone knows,
these are cultivated for their beautiful foliage rather than their
flowers, which tend to be rather unremarkable. First off, I am
looking for a dependable source for purchasing the species I still
need, and if any dealers are out there (or if anyone knows any
dealers or just individuals willing to sell extra plants) I would
sincerely appreciate contact information. I don't have a sponsor yet,
so I don't have a bucket of money. But I also only need one or two
plants of each species I do not have (and they seem easy to propagate).

Also, I just received a very generous gift of about 15-16 plants of
Goodyera oblongifolia, which were rescued from a roadside that was
being torn up to add a passing lane in Oregon. The remaining 250 or
so plants were (or are) being transferred to a safe location within a
state park, where they won't be adding passing lanes, well, hopefully
ever! As I only need 3-4 of these, I was wondering if anyone out
there is interested in a trade for other Goodyera species (or any
other jewel orchids for that matter which I might not have). It does
not appear to be listed as a CITES protected species, but if someone
knows differently, please inform me. Live oaks are protected here in
Tallahassee and homeowners who remove them are subject to heavy
fines, yet Walmart and Costco recently cleared a huge piece of land
that had to have had thousands of live oaks on it without any hassles
-- not surprised, however. A little green sure makes it easier to
remove that "other" green stuff that's in the way.

Well, thanks in advance! I look forward to any and all responses
(offline please).
Jim
