Ray and all,
If the story is correct then it is only logical what happened. You need both CITES export and CITES import permits, without going into details the only exception being mass produced hybrids. Plants that get impounded are sent away to a botanical garden or other officially recognized instance and with some luck they have the right conditions for the plants in question. Do you honestly believe the exhibitor was going to take these plants back? Go through the trouble of applying for an CITES export permit in the UK (hold on they did not import it legally ;-) ) and then apply for a CITES import permit for the Cayman Islands... If you read the article it clearly states: "The Ghost Orchid and Wild Banana Orchid were to be an important part of the show, but were prevented from being exhibited and auctioned..." So, auctioned to remain in Europe, sold to the highest bidder... not necessarily an orchid grower mind you ;-) We'll never know if the plants are now worse off then had they been accompanied by the correct paperwork. Kenneth. PS: in my opinion it is stupidity of the exhibitor Kenneth Bruyninckx Akerne Orchids Laarsebeekdreef 4, B-2900 Schoten, Belgium tel. +32 (0)3 651 40 36 fax +32 (0)3 653 06 76 [EMAIL PROTECTED] www.akerne-orchids.com See us at the following shows and events in 2008: . So now, rather than going back to the Caymans after the show, where they belong - and where the trade restrictions likely intended them to remain - they are now stuck in Holland.
