Hi all,

I need some help with solving this:
Serapicamptis is defined as Anacamptis × Serapias
...with the Anacamptis species in this cross were previously in
Orchis, but have 2n=36 instead of 2n=42 (remaining in Orchis).
According to Dr. Beyrle (http://www.myorchids.de/anaserapias1.htm) the
2n=42 species in Orchis are not crossable with Serapias (2n=36). I was
wondering if there's a publication that reports this from research.
The reason I'm asking is the existence (and valid status) of
Orchiserapias duffortii (Orchis purpurea × Serapias lingua). Orchis
purpurea has not been moved to Anacamptis due to 2n=42
(http://bio.kuleuven.be/pleco/Publications/PDF/Jacquemyn/Jacquemyn_etal_BiolCons_C_2007.pdf)
... but this should mean that Orchiserapias duffortii isn't possible.
Am I correct in stating that Orchiserapias duffortii is impossible or
am I missing something here ?
Secondly, the only other accepted Orchiserapias is Orchiserapias
cytherea, a cross between Anacamptis papilionacea var. papilionacea
and Serapias orientalis ... but this is also Serapicamptis cytherea.
Given these two "problems", does this mean that Orchiserapias is
erroneously accepted by Kew ?

regards,
Fred
