Local naturalist Brian Gough said: "Normally you would travel into the Dales to see this sort of thing. ... "They can lie dormant for several years - conditions have to be just right for them to grow. "You would never think a flower of such beauty could grow in such a barren area. It's a nice find." ... the owners of the car park imported some limestone chippings for the car park - providing a perfect environment for bee orchids to grow. Because the plant self-pollinates, there are now about ten or 12 specimens along the verge."
