Re Peter Croezen's comment: >>. Purchase orchids species/hybrids from reputable vendors, and /or >>experienced in-vitro propagators.<<
I bought a group of orchids by telephone from a well known nursery and well regarded hybridizer; a genus he was noted for breeding. None survived a month, turning black, dying rapidly although they all had looked fine when they arrived. I also lost all plants that had been doing well of that genus as well as zygopetalums, odontocidiums, phals and some other genera. No medications worked. I phoned the grower who suggested it might be a fungus, but had no further ideas or suggestions. Buying orchids is always a gamble no matter what the source..
