"A... Fort Lauderdale orchid seller pleaded guilty... to illegally 
importing more than 1,400 plants from the Philippines in 2005.

Mac Rivenbark... owner of Mac's Orchids and president of the Fort 
Lauderdale Orchid Society, admitted he lied to authorities at Miami 
International Airport, claiming the plants were artificially grown.

The orchids... had been collected from the wild, in violation of 
environmental protection laws.

Orchids have been protected by international treaty since 1975.

Rivenbark is to be sentenced Oct. 21.
He faces up to five years in prison and a potential fine of $250,000."
