A note of thanks to our colleagues who took the time to comment in answer to my queries about 'dipping clippers' ["Physan 20 or Consan 20 to dip your clippers in between plants ... so that you do not transmit bacteria or fungus"]:
Iris [Cohen] wrote : "While some of these compounds are supposedly anti-viral, dipping is not a definite preventive. You never know if your solution is strong enough or you left it in long enough. The only absolutely safe method of preventing contagion is to use a fresh disposable razor blade for each plant." Lee [in South Carolina, US] wrote : "A 'dip' that only addresses bacteria and fungus is not effective in protecting our orchids. I was much more concerned with the transmission of viruses... We elected to use a new single edge razor blade for each plant... this method should be virtually 100% effective against virus, fungus and bacteria." David [Janvrin] wrote : "disposable razors are cheaper than a single inexpensive orchid plant and much easier to manage." Alain [Benoit (France)] wrote : "Le moyen le plus sur reste de chauffer les ciseaux entre chaque plante avec un chalumeau portable à allumage automatique". ************* Best regards, Viateur _______________________________________________ the OrchidGuide Digest (OGD) [email protected] http://orchidguide.com/mailman/listinfo/orchids_orchidguide.com
