To answer some questions on where cyps are coming from:

1. All are being produced as seedlings from capsules collected in National
Forest lands.
2. No mature plants will be transplanted.
3. Timber companies who expressed interest proposed to have transplanted
seedlings
placed or restored to their property as a reintroduction and not as
recovered or rescued plants.
4. Despite lengthy time from seed to flowering in situ in forests, the purpose
is to increase or
reestablish populations which will enable future natural viable groups over
some 675,000 acres.
5. We expect reasonable survival rates once plants are transplanted; seeds are
local produced and should
not require lengthy adaptation as would more northern sourced plants.
6. A botanist from Forest Service has complete control on capsule gathering,
choice of flask labs,
disposition of seedlings produced, etc. He will survey and select suitable
sites.
7. No "free" seedlings will be given to volunteers, nor will seedlings be sold
since the whole concept
is not to compete with private labs or vendors, but rather, the idea is to
insure numbers in National
Forest sites are sufficient to allow survival of the species in Texas.
