Friends, My enthusiastic spam and virus filter has been deleting [EMAIL PROTECTED] for a short time and so this is a belated response to the many generous and helpful replies on and off line that I received in response to my plea for help with slugs. Members should know that it is a great privilege to be on a forum with so many concerned orchid enthusiasts who are willing to take the time to help. I want to thank everyone who responded.
For what it is worth I discovered that all metaldehyde preparations deteriorate in humid conditions and the coffee/caffeine routine requires that the slug eat the host to be affected. The deterrent works, but the chewing leaves a mark. I think the tests were conducted on lettuce leaves. At the present time I am using Ferric Phosphate which appears to be working but it is too early to offer a recommendation. I will update this if my use warrants it. Aome may be interested in knowing that the pitchers on my Nepenthes are more colourful and thriving from their diet of pesky slugs. Again many thanks!
