Peter Maxwell has pictures on his Flickr page detailing the lips of several Australian terrestrial orchids. http://www.flickr.com/photos/[EMAIL PROTECTED]/ What's the purpose of the raised 'hooks' on the lips? At first I thought they encouraged at pollinator to come in to the center, but then I realized they were pointing in the 'wrong' direction, keeping insects out. Are they sticky, to trap insects at the column? Or have nectar on them as an attractant? Any discussion would be interesting.
