Mark Hinkle defeated Wayne Allyn Root for LP Party Chair after three rounds of
voting.  John Jay Mayers threw his support behind Mark after the first round,
making it fairly inevitable that Mark would prevail.  Final vote tally was 281
for Mark, 223 for Wayne, with NOTA getting 10 votes (or something close to this
result).  Our own Christiana Mayer just seconded the nomination of Mark
Rutherford for vice chair.  I'll get her nominating speech posted in due
course.

Hope your weekend is going well. jeff

Subject: Live from the Libertarian National Convention

Friends,

Just a short note to tell you that the Libertarian National Convention is in
full swing.  Go to www.votejefflawrence.com to see some of my clips from the
convention, including short interviews with 2008 LP Presidential nominee Bob
Barr, Oregon Senatorial Candidate Marc Delphine, Admiral Michael Colley, LP
Chair Bill Redpath, Judge Jim Gray, media personality and 2008 LP VP nominee
Wayne Allyn Root, and my young friend Ken who is focused on Peace.

Saturday evening we enjoyed a spirited debate among the five champions
competing for the Chair's position.  The five:

Wayne Allyn Root--2008 LP VP nominee, CEO, media celebrity--wants a big tent
libertarian party

Ernest Hancock-- activist and radio personality--focused on maintaining LP
principles

John Jay Mayers--big time Texas leader with style

George Phillies--professor, organizer and tireless administrator

Mark Hinkle--36 years of Libertarian leadership

They were all awesome.  I'll try and get some more video clips today, and
report out on the winner.  I've never been around so many inspired, freedom
loving people in my life.  There is a real debate in the party, however, on our
future direction.  One camp wants a big tent libertarian party, and another is
concerned about maintaining our principles and remaining (maybe) an activist
party believing that the pure message of liberty is the greatest attracter.
Personally, I'm in favor of the big tent approace.  Today is our time if there
is ever going to be one as many independents, democrats and republicans are
looking for alternatives. Liberty is always the answer, and weaning people off
the major parties requires us to exercise some tolerance and understanding of
their perspectives while maintaining our principles.

Hope all is well with each of you. best regards, jeff
