Hi all, I'd just like to remind you that our annual conference is only 2 weeks away! https://orgcon.openrightsgroup.org/2014/home
This year we've got the wonderful Cory Doctorow giving an opening speech, titled 'Information /doesn't /want to be free'. We also have a lot of interesting sessions, my pesonal favourite is*'Nothing to Hide, Nothing to Fear'? *in which survivors of surveillance and experts on privacy will be speaking about their experiences and perspectives on the concept of 'Nothing to hide, Nothing to fear' with: Erin Saltman, Quilliam Foundation Güneş Tavmen, Turkish Internet rights expert. Eleanor Saitta, nomadic hacker, artist and designer. Merrick Badger, Campaign Opposing Police Surveillance There's also some particularly brilliant legal talks, including the solicitor in Digital Rights Ireland's winning case which ruled that the Data Retention Directive was invalid. Media Legal Defence Initiative will be talking about their successful case getting YouTuve unblocked in Pakistan. That's only a small selection of what's going on! This year we also have a Day 2 (limited tickets for only £3) with an opening talk from Phil Booth on winning victory against ID cards, and then training, workshops and discussions on campaigning against surveillance in the run up to the election. https://orgcon.openrightsgroup.org/2014/day-2-programme You can still get members tickets for Day 1 for only £10 here: https://orgcon.openrightsgroup.org/2014/tickets I hope you can make it, and see you next Saturday! :) Best wishes, Ruth -- Ruth Coustick-Deal Supporter Officer Open Rights Group Email: [email protected] Call: 020 7096 1079 Support our work www.openrightsgroup.org/join I work Mon, Wed, Thurs & Fri.
