Hi folks

*I am sending this message to all the google dance-related group that I
belong to.*

This winter, attendance for all public community and family dance events in
the Albany, NY area has been drastically down.

It's fresh in my mind because on Saturday, we had only five participants
(one home schooling family who lives 2 blocks away from the dance hall)
This was the third year of the annual dance; the last two years we had 50 -
70 participants having an incredibly great time. Was it because the
Saturday before St. Patrick's Day is now one of the busiest days of the
year for parades, music & dance concerts and parties?

But two weeks earlier, we had 9 participants at a regular community dance
(which occurs three to four times per year).

Interestingly, the private parties are just as well attended and energetic
as ever.

Our monthly family dance attendance is down too, but the 25 - 30
participants is ok.

We have 500 people on our email list (probably 375 of them pre-Covid). When
I poll participants at each dance about how they found out about it, 90%
say a friend told them. Maybe 10% come as a result of our email reminder,
or facebook or other media.

Is it that we are all so depressed about the state of the world?

How are your dances going?
Any ideas on how to bring folks back?
