I tried the above approach but it still returns me the virtual/abstract rid.
I just changed it a little bit and it worked. Following is the ofunction:
var content = request.getContent();
var gdb = orient.getGraph();
var rid = gdb.command("sql","create vertex user content " + content);
gdb.commit();
return rid;
I guess calling orient.getGraph() twice gives two different instances.
